I did two holiday fanart exchanges this year . . . I won't have anything more to share for awhile (still Photoshop-less, except for on my old Dell, which I am leaving behind when I move tomorrow).
( holiday fanart! )
Anyway, Happy New Year! My main resolution: draw more. |

So I was playing around with a Harry Potter doodle from my camping trip last month . . . and somehow I wound up with what appears to be more or less acceptable cell-style coloring (on a fairly nonexistent background, but then, it was a doodle). Huh.
The picture behind the cut constitutes what I'd consider quite a minor spoiler for Deathly Hallows.

Oh, and if you get a chance, you should really check out my contributions to the latest superhero meme. I'm really pretty proud of the first one. |

Haven't posted anything here in awhile, have I? I mean, I recently updated my website, so there wasn't much point. But hey! I have new art! I've been designing thank-you cards for various Portland/Dark Horse people. Thought I'd share. It's all flat color, and I'm fairly proud of it. And also . . .
I drew a man! Don't everyone die of shock or anything. I've been trying to practice, lately . . .
Under the cut, ( three pictures. )
All the images are hosted on photobucket for now, because tm.net won't let me upload for whatever reason.
Oh, and if you want to see me doing another self-indulgent "over the years" comparison, check this out. |

I'm having the worst time concentrating on anything . . . I keep having new ideas. Or wanting to draw fanart, for the first time in months. But hey, look, energy. |

I think I've come up with the right candidate for my minicomic; a vague idea I came up with during some class or other last year, that seems to lend itself well to short, episodic format. Of all my stories, it's the lightest and least messy. I'm even going to try and make it funny (heaven help me).
Here are the two ( main characters ) |

I've been fiddling with a lot of art for my non-Anathema comic concepts (there are three of them: Queen, Turtle Soup, and something I'm tentatively calling "Felix Culpa," though that might wind up being a story-title rather than a title for the whole concept). One of them is getting a minicomic this year. But! None of that art is done yet. ^^; So here's some silly doodling and random stuff I've done in the meantime.

( two pieces behind the cut. )
So yeah . . . more art quite soon, I should think. |

Probably the most well-realized picture of Suki to date.
I think my local people will ( recognize the location )
The perspective on the background is a bloody mess, but I really enjoyed drawing this and I'm reasonably happy with it. At least I'm doing backgrounds, now . . . and I will get a book to help me, soon. Scott McCloud has some good recommendations in Making Comics. |

So I've been working on Anathema-related things lately . . . character stuff, mostly, I need to tackle the plot next (the ending is more solid than it's ever been; the middle, as usual, needs work). I drew up little character profiles, for my own reference, in my sketchbook (with spoilers and notes), and thought I might as well color them to share.
Large image warning.
( guess it's kind of a big cast )
Also, there is one more naked woman. Nudity warning! But I'm not locking this, because it's not actually sexual.
( actually, she's the same naked woman. )
I'm working on a picture of Taiyo Suki right now, too, and I need to practice male anatomy and possibly update Didier's design, so . . . there will probably be more of this to come. |

This is a piece of Good Omens fanart that I drew for a secret-Santa type exchange. I can't post it anywhere publically until the reveal, which I think is supposed to be January 1. But! I am itching to share it with someone, and I know a bunch of you like the book, so.
([ETA:] The reveal happened last week, so I'm unlocking this entry, now.)
My request included several prompts. I chose "Crowley/Aziraphale" and "domestic scenes," which was probably the easy way out, but hey, I worked hard on this. And ye gods, I drew men. :p

I've been suffering through some really unpleasant artist's block recently. Fortunately, I seem to have got some of my groove back this week . . . I have a holiday card design, another on the way, and a solid sketch for the Good Omens holiday exchange I'm participating in.
Plus, I colored this, which I drew awhile back. The background's kind of for shite, but I don't care, because I'm rather happy with the people themselves.

So I spent most of this past week up in Vermont, visiting the Center for Cartoon Studies. I had a blast, but the best part of all was definitely just spending time with a community of cartoonists. It's hard to adequately express how inspiring that is.
While hanging out with the students, I doodled this Anathema-related ( comic strip ) |

This is a birthday card for the fabulous tzarohell. It's several days late, for which I apologize . . . it wasn't at all that I forgot, but rather, because I've been having some trouble producing artwork of late. Last week was a bad week, but things are improving now.

A very random pinup, pirate birthday cards, and a rather bad shot of a pirate costume (which doesn't show off my awesome sleeves, alas).
( sundry and random )
I need to stop with the random illustration and do some comics, I think. Anathema, yes, and one or two shorts that have been kicking around in my brain.
Oh, and I got myself a new deviantART account for original work, mostly for the hell of it. Elfwood seems to have dried up, for the most part, and it's nice to occasionally get some comments on my artwork from random strangers. |

Hello there. Sorry I've been so absent from this journal . . . I went on this big fanart kick recently, and I didn't feel right posting here until I had something original to share.
So, you get that, and some of my favorite bits of recent fanart.
First, the original piece: ( we're just this cool. )
And then, there's the fanart. The first one is just a simple "Kim Possible" piece; the second two are both Stargate: Atlantis AUs (Alternate Universes).
( beware the fangirling. )
And, lastly, I need your help! I drew this really odd piece with the intention of using it for a layout on my lilithchilde journal, probably with song lyrics of some sort. However, I'm at a loss as to background/border design/etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Yeah, I have no idea why the vaguely mod (but weird) girl has an Auryn on her skirt. I just felt like it. That's a pomegranate she's handing to the other girl.
Anyway, thoughts would be greatly appreciated. ^^ |

There were things I wanted to draw today, but the humidity saps my energy so much that it's hard to hold a pencil. In any case, the current page of Anathema is all men, and I'm having difficulties. Sigh.
Oh well, I did have a piece of related lineart lying around, so . . . more colored work.

I decided to color the Glee Club mermaid-doodle. (I think I posted the raw version awhile back.) Couldn't remove the lyrics (the scan was too grainy to mess with much, but if I cleaned it up lots of the nuances were lost). Still really like it, though.
( le siren )
I was obsessed with drawing mermaids long before I ever even began to consider doing art in any kind of "serious" way. I doodled them all over my middle school notebooks. It's one of those cases of hearteningly drastic improvement. |
